NIPD Genetics is an innovative biotechnology company active in the field of designing, developing, and manufacturing non-invasive genetic tests. NIPD Genetics was founded in 2010 as a spin-off from The Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics, a research-academic center of excellence, to commercialize pioneering research work in the field of non-invasive prenatal diagnosis. NIPD Genetics leverages its proprietary genetic and bioinformatic analysis methods to develops novel tests and technologies for prediction, diagnosis and prevention of genetic disorders. VERACITY non-invasive prenatal test for the detection of trisomies of chromosomes 21, 18, 13, aneuploidies of X and Y, and the determination of fetal gender was released in 2015. NIPD Genetics laboratories provide non-invasive prenatal testing services internationally.

NIPD Genetics consists of a talented and multidisciplinary team of world-class experts and scientists with knowledge and experience in the fields of business, molecular biology, human genetics, genomics, transcriptomics, methylomics, statistics and bioinformatics. Philippos PatsalisFounder and CEO
Prof. Philippos Patsalis obtained his BSc in Biology from the Aristotelian University of Salonica, Greece and his MA, MPh and PhD in Genetics from the City University of New York, USA. He underwent specialization and post-doctoral training at Institute Pasteur, France, Cornell Medical Center, New York University, Memorial-Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Columbia University, in New York, USA. He also received professional certification and licensing to practice as a Laboratory Director in the specialties of Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics from the New York Department of Health, USA and Accreditation as Laboratory Director in Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics from College of American Pathologists, USA.

Prof Patsalis worked as Director and Founder of the Department of Cytogenetics and Genomics and the Translational Genetics Team at the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics; Founder and Chief Executive Director of the biotechnology company NIPD Genetics; Founder, Professor and Provost of the Cyprus School of Molecular Medicine; Chief Executive Medical Director of the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics and Minister of Health of the Republic of Cyprus. As of November 2015 he holds the position of Distinguished Professor at the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics and the Cyprus School of Molecular Medicine and the position of Chief Executive Director of NIPD Genetics. Prof. Patsalis is a scientist with international recognition in the field of Human Genetics. He has been invited as lecturer to more than 200 Universities and international conferences. He has competitively obtained more than 40 research grants and funding of over 20 million euro from international organizations such as the 5th, 6th, 7th European Framework Programs and the most prestigious grant in the European Union known as the ERC Advanced Grant, which is based purely on excellence. He was appointed to several Editorial Boards of scientific journals and has filed several patents. He contributed chapters in 10 books and published more than 130 peer-reviewed scientific publications in international journals, such as Nature Medicine, Lancet, Human Molecular Genetics, American Journal Human Genetics, etc. In Cyprus, he is the President of the National Council of Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship and has served on several other Boards, Committees and Councils. In Europe, he is the national representative of Cyprus in many European committees and councils, as well as elected Boards of Directors such as the European Society of Human Genetics, the European Cytogenetics Association, etc. He has been appointed as external member of National Academies of Sciences and has been honored with many national and international awards, including the Cyprus National Research Award, the Cyprus National Innovation Award, the Most Notable Scientific and Social Contribution Award University of Nicosia, the US State Alumni Award-State Department USA, the Silver Medal of the Parliament which is the highest honorary distinction of the Parliament of the Republic of Cyprus and the National Award from the President of the Republic of Cyprus.
Costas AnastassiadesChief Operations Officer
Mr. Costas Anastassiades received his B. Eng. (Hons) Civil Engineering from the King’s College London University, London and his MBA in International Business & Export Management from the Cass Business School, London. He has worked for the three biggest investment banking institutions in Cyprus from several positions acquiring extensive experience in all sectors of investment banking. From 1996 until 2000 he served as Assistant to the General Manager and head of the Brokerage Department of the Laiki Investments Ltd, Cyprus. In the period 2000-2004, he founded and directed the Eurolink Securities Ltd, Cyprus and successfully managed a 20 million EURO merger with Olympian Securities Ltd were served as Executive Chairman and President of the Board of Directors. In 2004 he worked as General Manager of Investments and Property Management for the Mallouppas & Papacostas Group Ltd, Cyprus leading the company’s strategic decisions in the sector.

Mr. Anastassiades has received the Ministry of Finance Certificate of Professional Competency for all investment services. Mr. Anastassiades is a former member of the Board of the Cyprus Stockbrokers Association for two consecutive terms. He has served on the Board of Directors of a number of companies in Cyprus and is an active member of the start-up community in Cyprus participating in a number of panels as a judge and mentor for start-up venture competitions.
George KoumbarisChief Scientific Officer
Dr. George Koumbaris received his BSc and MSc degrees from Florida State University and completed his PhD in Molecular Genetics at The Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics where he also served for many years as a researcher in Genetics, Biotechnology and Non-Invasive Prenatal Diagnosis. He is an expert in Genomics, Transcriptomics and Epigenomics, Non-Invasive Diagnostics, and Advanced Genetic Technologies. He is also an inventor and author of numerous peer-reviewed papers published in international scientific journals. His research has been presented at various international scientific meetings. Dr. Koumbaris joined NIPD Genetics in 2011 as the Head of Research and Development and led the company’s R&D activities. He was appointed Chief Scientific Officer at NIPD Genetics in 2015 and oversees all scientific activities.
Nicolas StephanouChief Commercialization Officer
Dr. Nicolas Stephanou received his BSc in Biochemistry from SUNY Stony Brook, NY, his PhD in Immunology and Microbiology from Cornell University Weill Medical College and his MBA in Strategy from Cornell University Johnson Business School. He has an extensive knowledge and experience in Molecular Genetics as well as products commercialization. He has worked in the Pharmaceutical industry at key managerial positions acquiring extensive experience in product management, strategic marketing, product development and sales at a global level. His responsibilities involved the promotion of both prescription (Rx) pharmaceuticals and Over The Counter (OTC) medicines. In his latest role, he led a company specializing in international sales and marketing of Food Supplements and Medical Devices. Dr. Stephanou joined NIPD Genetics in 2016 as a Chief Commercialization Officer overseeing the sales expansion and global partnerships.

Suresh C. Jhanwar
Prof. Suresh Jhanwar has forty years of clinical and research experience in Cancer Genomics and Molecular Medicine and he is recognized as a world renowned scientist in the field of Cancer Genetics. He served as the Director of the Cytogenetics Laboratory at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center’s (MSKCC) from 1996 to 2013. His laboratory was the first one to be designated as the “Laboratory of Solid Tumor Genetics” in 1988, at the Department of Pathology of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. In 2015, he was appointed as a Member Emeritus at the MSKCC. He has received many international honors and awards and he has professional certification and licensing in Cancer Cytogenetics, Molecular Oncology and Predisposition Cancer Genetics specialties, from the New York Department of Health, USA. He also served as a key member of various disease management teams and actively participated in various clinical trials for both hematologic as well as solid tumors. Prof. Jhanwar was recently elected as a Foreign Fellow of the oldest Academy of Sciences in India, which in the past 30 years elected only 84 such fellows internationally. He also served as Professor of Pathology in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine of Weill Cornell Medical College. Prof. Jhanwar also serves as a member of the editorial boards of several journals including Anticancer Research, International Journal of Human Genetics, and Cancer Genomics and Proteomics. He has published in high impact journals like PNAS, Science, Nature, Nature Genetics, NEJM, Blood, Oncogene, MCB, Cancer Research, Cell and EMBO, among others, resulting in more than 225 publications.
Joris Vermeesch
Prof Joris Vermeesch was born in Belgium in 1965. He obtained his BSc degree from the Bioengineer University of Gent, Belgium and his PhD degree in Chemistry and Biotechnology from the University of Nebraska, USA. He is the Head of the Cytogenetics unit of the CME-UZ research group since 2001 and the Coordinator of Genomics Core since 2008. Furthermore, as from 2008, Prof. Vermeesch has been elected as the President of the Belgian Society of Human Genetics. He also serves as member of the Board of Directors of several organizations such as the International Standards on Array CGH Consortium (ISCA), the European Cytogenetics external Quality Control and the International Society of Prenatal Diagnosis. He is the founder of a biotech spin-off company known as “Cartagenia”. Prof. Vermeesch is a scientist with international reputation in the provision of cytogenetics, genomics, genetics, single cell, preimplantation, prenatal and postnatal diagnosis. He has published more than 130 peer review papers in scientific journals including Nature, J Med Genet, Am J Hum Genet, Nucleic Acid research, etc. He has collaborated with Prof. Patsalis in several research projects in the last ten years with great success.
Voula Velissariou
Dr. Voula Velissariou received her BSc degree from the Department of Biology, University of Athens, Greece and her PhD in Genetics from the Department of Genetics, University of Cambridge, UK. She underwent specialization training in cytogenetic prenatal diagnosis methods and CVS culture techniques from the Department of Medical Genetics, Churchill Hospital, Oxford, UK. Dr Velissariou has also obtained training in molecular cytogenetic methodologies from Guy’s Hospital, London and University College London, London. Dr Velissariou is the Head of the Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics Department in Bioatriki SA in Athens, Greece since January 2016. She has served as founder member of the Panhellenic Association of Medical Geneticists as well as member of the board of Panhellenic Union of Biologists. She is a scientist with an international reputation in the provision of prenatal and postnatal genetic diagnostic services in Greece with 30 years’ experience.

Nicos MichaelasChairman
Dr Nicos Michaelas received his BA(Hons) in 1995 in Industrial Economics with Accounting from the University of Nottingham in the UK his PhD in in 1998 in Financial Economics from the Manchester Business School in the UK. From 1997 until 2000, he followed the academic track researching and teaching business economics and financial management at Manchester Business School. From 2000 until 2005 he has worked at Lefkoniko Stockbrokers Ltd (the Investment Banking Branch of the Cyprus Cooperative Banking Society) as Operations Manager and since 2005 has been appointed as the General Manager of Demetra Investment Public Ltd, the largest investment company in Cyprus, a position he holds until today. He is the Chairman of the Association of Investments Fund and Unit Trusts in Cyprus and he sits on the Board of a number of public and private Cyprus and international companies operating in various industries.
Pavlos PhotiadesMember
Mr Pavlos Photiades studied Economics at Harvard College, Harvard University from where he graduated in 1988 having been awarded twice the Harvard College Scholarship Award for academic achievement. He also holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the INSEAD business school in France. Since 1991, Mr Photiades was Managing Director of Photos Photiades Breweries and later Photos Photiades Group, one of the largest and most successful privately owned Groups in Cyprus and Greece with leading positions in its three divisions. The Group is involved in beverages, financial institutions and real estate development in five countries. During his tenure, the Group experienced dramatic expansion both into new fields and into new geographic areas. He has served on the Board of Directors of several public companies in Cyprus, European and International. In addition to being the current President of the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics, his varied interests lead to his ongoing appointment as a member of the Executive Board of the Cyprus Olympic Committee and as one of the founders of the International Association for The Protection of Human Rights in Cyprus.
Robert KyprianouMember
Mr Robert Kyprianou, who has over 35 years’ experience in asset management and financial markets, graduated with an MA degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from Oxford University, United Kingdom. He served as the Chief Executive Officer at AXA Framlington Group Ltd. from 2006 until 2009. He joined AXA Investment Managers as the Global Head of Fixed Income in 1999. In 2002 he was appointed Head of Securities Investment Management and Deputy CEO of AXA Investment Managers globally. Previously Mr. Kyprianou was the Global Head of Fixed Income at ABN AMRO Asset Management Holdings, Inc, where he founded and built ABN AMRO’s London asset management business. He joined ABN AMRO from Salomon Brothers Asset Management Ltd. where he co-founded Salomon’s international asset management business. Mr. Kyprianou served as Senior Portfolio Manager at Citibank Global Asset Management in the fixed income department from 1987 to 1990. He held several positions at British Petroleum PLC from 1978 to 1987 including Economist and Strategist for the British Petroleum Pension Fund and Chief International Economist for Standard Oil of Ohio. In 2009, Mr Kyprianou has served in a number of Board and advisory roles including as an Independent Non-Executive Director at Gartmore Group Limited; an independent Non-Executive Director, Chairman of the Risk Committee and member of the Audit Committee of Aviva Investors, the global asset management arm of Aviva Insurance; member of the Investment Committee of the Brasenose College, Oxford University endowment fund. Currently Mr Kyprianou serves as an Independent Non-Executive Director, member of the Audit and Risk Committees at PIMCO Europe Ltd. He is the Chairman of the Board of Directors at Polar Capital Global Financials Trust PLC, a UK listed investment company, and Chairman of the Board of Directors at Eurobank Cyprus Ltd.

Mr Anthony Loumides received his BA degree from the American College of Greece in 1998 and his MBA from Northeastern University, USA in 1993. In Mr Loumidis was appointed as the Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of GeNO in October 2013. He served as the Chief Financial Officer of American DG Energy Inc. from 2004 and Treasurer from 2001 until October, 2013. He also served as Chief Financial Officer, Treasurer and Secretary of Eurosite Power Inc. from 2010 to October 2013, and as Vice President and Treasurer of Tecogen Inc., an affiliate of American DG Energy Inc., from 2001 to October 2013. Prior to 2001, Mr Loumidis held various positions at Thermo Electron, including National Sales Manager for Thermo Capital Financial Services, Manager of Investor Relations and Manager of Business Development of Tecomet, a subsidiary of Thermo Electron.

Byron Georgiou has had a long career in the private and public sector in business, law and government service. From 2009 to 2011 he served as one of ten bipartisan nationwide members on the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission, which conducted America’s official inquiry into the causes of the continuing financial, economic and housing crisis, and reported its results to the President and Congress.

Byron currently oversees Georgiou Enterprises, with wide-ranging interests, including as Chair, President, CEO and controlling shareholder of Xtreme Green Electric Vehicles, Inc., manufacturer of lithium­ ion, iron-phosphate battery powered all-electric niche vehicles distributed worldwide; lead investor and sole non-founder independent director of Health Fusion, providing practice management and cloud-based healthcare information technology to U.S. healthcare providers. The sale of Health Fusion for up to $190 Million to Quality Systems Inc. (QSII-NASDAQ) was announced on October 30th 2015 and closed January 4th 2016, co-founder of Corinthian Capital Group, a New York, Boston, and Chicago-based middle market private equity fund; former director of Group Aero, an integrated group providing advanced engineering, design and manufacturing services to the space, commercial aerospace and defense markets; former director of Mortgage Resolution Partners, a community advisory firm that attempted to assist local governments in addressing the underwater mortgage crisis in America; director and 1985 co-founder with Jack Ford, son of President Gerald Ford, of lnfoplace USA, providing customer services at regional shopping centers nationwide; and various Nevada and California real estate development and management projects .

Byron has served since 2005 on the advisory board of the Harvard Law School Program on Corporate Governance, which hosts the world’s leading blog on corporate governance and financial regulation. ln 1994, Byron co-founded American Partners Capital Group with Dale Hanson, then CEO of the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS), the nation’s largest pension fund, to meet the needs of institutional investors and investment managers with capital formation in a variety of alternative asset categories.

During the second of Jerry Brown’s four terms as California Governor, Byron served as Legal Affairs Secretary, responsible for litigation by and against the Governor, judicial appointments, liaison with the Attorney General, Judiciary and State Bar, legal advice to the Governor and members of his Cabinet, and exercise of the Governor’ s powers of extradition and clemency.

Byron attended Stanford University on a full Alfred P. Sloan academic scholarship, graduating with Great Distinction with an A.B. in Political Science, as a participant in the Honors Program in Social Thought and Institutions, and received his J.D. Magna Cum Laude from Harvard Law School.

Christodoulos IordanouMember
Dr. Christodoulos Iordanou studied at the Medical School of the University of Athens from 1970 to 1976. From 1976 to 1979, he was a pediatric resident at the Roosevelt Hospital in New York City, NY. In 1979, he was appointed as the Chief Pediatric Resident at the Roosevelt Hospital. Since 1980, he has been running his own private practice in New York. He is a member of the American Medical Association and the Hellenic Medical Society. He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Iordanou is also an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Hofstra University School of Medicine.

Mr. Gregoris Gregoriou received his BA in Economics from the University of Kent at Canterbury, his MBA in Finance from the Nottingham University and an MSc in Shipping Trade and Finance from the City University in London.
With over 20 years of experience in the shipping sector and in particular in the fields of Chartering, Sales & Purchasing and Bunkering, he has a proven ability to develop and strengthen management teams in maximising company profitability and efficiency. He is results oriented and with excellent communications skills. Mr Gregoriou is able to establish sustainable relationships with customers, suppliers and stakeholders.
Mr. Gregoriou is currently a Director of Fameline Holding Group Ltd and acts as a Managing Director for Bunkernet Ltd and Navilub Ltd.
Stephanos StephouMember
Mr. Stephanos Stephou received his BSC in Political Science and International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science, his MSC in International Security and Global Governance from Birkbeck, University of London, a Professional Qualification in Public Relations from the Chartered Institute of Public Relations in London and he is currently a Global MBA student at IE Business School in Madrid. Mr. Stephou has a diverse professional background including consulting, public relations, public affairs and management of companies. He has worked for Deloitte in Cyprus and has extensive experience working for the Cyprus political spectrum as campaign manager and adviser both to members of the Cabinet of Ministers and the Parliament. He currently holds the position of Strategic Planning Director of Fameline Holding Group. Mr. Stephou also sits on the Board of public and private companies and is an elected member of the Political Bureau of DISY.
